Glassenbury Camping
Twelve acres of High Weald meadow with valley views, composting toilets, a double-decker bus for lounging in, and a host who actually cares.
Glassenbury Camping sits inside the High Weald Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, five minutes' drive from Cranbrook and about two hours from London. The site is a single open meadow field on a working farm, and the views across the valley are the reason to come: sunsets here are the kind that make people put their phones down.
The operation is off-grid in the real sense. No electricity at the pitches, composting toilets (which don't smell, per everyone who's stayed), and hot showers fed without grid power. The double-decker bus parked at one end of the field does duty as a communal sitting room with sofas and chairs. Free-to-use fire pits and BBQs are dotted around; firewood is available to buy on site. Bell tents come pre-pitched with a proper mattress and a well-equipped kitchen box. The family who run it, Raf and Maria, are the kind of hosts who check in the morning after arrival and answer questions fast.
Bedgebury National Pinetum and Forest is a ten-minute drive, Bewl Water fifteen minutes. The walk into Cranbrook threads through ancient woodland and takes around 35 minutes on foot. Sissinghurst Castle, Scotney Castle, and Bodiam Castle are all reachable in under an hour. The Three Castles Walk bridleway runs north of the site. This is well-positioned Kent countryside rather than remote wilderness, which suits families and couples looking for a base as much as those wanting to sit in the field.
“An honest eco-campsite that earns its reputation through host care, genuine off-grid credentials, and a meadow view that does most of the selling.”
