Bloomsburys Biddenden

A bohemian, eclectic glamping wonder near Biddenden where garden centre, gig venue, cafe and spa collide, and cabins and safari lodges sit tucked among sculpture-filled gardens

Almost a tourist destination in its own right, Bloomsburys is a wonderful mashup of garden centre, gig venue, cafe, deli, workshops, therapy centre and a glampsite tucked in the gardens. It sounds like a lot but it all works beautifully. You enter through the Roots Cafe restaurant and for a moment it feels like you've wandered into the living room of a particularly eccentric aunt where tables, chairs, pottery, artwork and knick knacks blend together to create a beautiful space to dine in. As we arrived a group of campers were laughing as they sat down to a feast prepared for lunch, clearly very happy with their choice of glampsite.

Beyond the garden centre and its range of beautiful ornaments sits the glamping, and the campsite proper is set in beautiful gardens full of striking sculptures, fountains and plants. There are no tent pitches; instead the site leans into proper glamping and cabin stays, with a safari lodge and cosy carriage units among the options. There's even a hot tub and the facilities are outstanding, with a lovely little spa that photos genuinely don't do justice. All this makes Bloomsburys perfect for couples on a romantic break or a group of old friends who want a relaxed weekend with some good wine and a little bit of luxury. There's always something interesting going on, from yoga and pilates to live music in the lounge.

Off site a footpath leads from the site through fields and past ponds to the quaint village of Biddenden where you can get a good pint at the Red Lion. For medieval enthusiasts the area has some remarkable castles including Sissinghurst just a few miles away and Leeds and Bodiam a short drive.
