Palace Farm Campsite

A no-frills tent field in the Kent Downs AONB where the pull is the landscape, the pub is a five-minute walk, and London feels genuinely far away.

Palace Farm sits in the North Kent Downs in the quiet village of Doddington, inside the AONB, and the surrounding countryside does exactly what this kind of site promises: wooded valleys, open farmland, and a pace that slows you down within an hour of arriving. The campsite is a large, open rectangular field with tents pitched down both sides, giving families and solo walkers generous room to breathe and children somewhere to run without anyone minding.

The Augustine Camino pilgrimage route passes through Doddington itself, so walkers using Palace Farm as a base can pick up the trail directly from the village. The North Kent Marshes are within half an hour by bike, and if you need more: Whitstable and Margate are both within easy reach, Canterbury and Leeds Castle are familiar day-trip territory, and Faversham with its market town appeal is nearby. For evenings, The Chequers Inn is a short walk from the farm.

Facilities are honest and functional: hot showers, flushing toilets, a washing-up area, and the option to hire a fire pit and buy wood on site. Bell tents are available for those who prefer to arrive without kit. No dogs are permitted. The whole thing is run by a genuinely welcoming team, and the site stays quiet after 10pm. From London it is around 90 minutes by car or an hour by train to Teynham station.

Before you book

  • No dogs permitted on site.
  • The access lane can be rough in places, with overhanging bushes at the entrance.
A grounded, well-kept tent field in proper AONB countryside, run with genuine care and positioned within striking distance of the Kent coast, the marshes, and the North Downs walking network.

Why it made the cut
