Buckland Farm Camping

A proper Somerset meadow with fenced pitches, views to the Blackdown Hills, and an owner who genuinely likes dogs.

Buckland Farm sits at the foot of the Blackdown Hills in a five-acre meadow that earns its off-grid credentials honestly: no electric hookups, compost toilets cleaned daily, and pitches so generously spaced you can run a boules game without leaving your plot. The 15 pitches are large (15 by 12 metres as a minimum), each individually fenced with longer grass between them, so you get real separation rather than the usual campsite-field sardine arrangement.

Owner Carol runs the place with a light touch: a personal welcome when you arrive, on hand when you need her, and then sensibly scarce. A solar-powered lounge tent serves as the communal hub, with board games, local walking guides, and phone-charging. Fire pits and bags of chopped wood are available to hire for a small fee, and the views to the hills and surrounding woodland give the evenings something to look at beyond the flames.

For dogs, this site goes further than most. The fenced individual pitches mean reactive or low-recall dogs can have a proper wander without a lead, and there is an additional enclosed off-lead paddock. Bell tent glamping is available for those who want a furnished base without pitching their own. The adjacent working farm means occasional tractor noise in the day, but by evening the site drops to woodpigeon level.

Before you book

  • The access lane is narrow: caravans can navigate it but worth driving slowly.
  • No electric hookup anywhere on site.
A well-run, owner-present Somerset meadow that earns its reputation through quiet attention to detail: wide pitches, clean facilities, a genuine welcome for dogs, and the Blackdown Hills on the skyline.

Why it made the cut

  • Fenced individual plots and enclosed paddock make this one of the most dog-considered sites in Somerset
