Ty Parke Farm Camping

A forward-thinking eco-friendly retreat on a 52-acre South Wales farm, limited to a dozen pitches with solar-heated water, a wind turbine and five-star facilities you'll never queue for

You'll take away a few intangible things from Ty Parke. As you chop the kindling for that night's campfire it's worth pausing and marvelling at how your skills with the axe have improved after just a few days' stay. Then there's the stars of course; far away from the orange glow of our streets you'll see them like never before. And finally, a lovely mixture of solitude and companionship. Bookings are limited to a dozen pitches, with the option to tuck yourself away in one of the secluded hideaway pitches or stay in the family field and bond with fellow campers. All this is made possible by Gary and Annie Loch's goal to make a campsite that's a little different, embracing the traditional with campfires and free eggs whilst making sure the modern is provided for with genuinely five-star facilities that you'll never queue for thanks to the small number of campers. Every pitch comes with its own campfire, BBQ grill and picnic table, and there are undercover areas and even bodyboards to borrow.

Eco matters are close to the Lochs' heart, with the site's water heated by solar panels and a wind turbine providing the electricity they need. More than 20,000 trees have been planted to re-establish woodland on the 52-acre farm, with signs already that kestrels, kites and swifts are moving in. There is also a five-acre nature trail running alongside a stream you can take a splash in. Venturing away from Ty Parke you have the Pembrokeshire coastline to explore. Head to Abereiddy bay for an eerie blue lagoon next to an old slate quarry where people go rock jumping and coasteering and the beach gets good waves for surfers. Visit the Sloop Inn in Porthgain for a family friendly pint before retiring to hone those axe skills one more time.
