Digs in the Wig
Five secluded woodland pitches beneath the Preseli Hills, run by a host who genuinely cares, with a bookable heated pool nobody expects.
Digs in the Wig occupies 25 acres of ancient woodland on a family farm in central Pembrokeshire, the pitches spread far enough apart that you could be the only people there. You will hear owls. You will not hear your neighbours.
The site sits in the shadow of the Preseli Hills with the Pembrokeshire coastline within easy driving distance. Howell, the host, runs things with the kind of hands-on attention that only works at five pitches: he appears when needed and vanishes when not. Facilities are deliberately minimal at the pitch itself (eco-loos, rustic showers, a shared kitchen area with actual worksurface) but the outlier is a bookable indoor heated pool, a genuine surprise that earns its keep on a grey Welsh afternoon.
Llys y Fran Country Park is five minutes down the road for walking. Castell Henllys iron-age fort is thirty minutes, Pembroke Castle forty. Most guests, going by their accounts, find the woodland enough: fires after dark, mornings punctuated by the farm's livestock, days built around doing very little. The site is dog-friendly and families come here too, but the spirit of the place is couples and small groups who want to be genuinely disconnected.
