Brigs Farm

A laid-back West Dorset farm with sea views, communal fires, and weekend pizza nights two miles from the Jurassic Coast.

Brigs Farm sits on a 12-acre smallholding above the hedgerowed lanes of Wooton Fitzpaine, close enough to the Jurassic Coast that you can see the English Channel from your tent. Charmouth, the fossil-hunting town, is two miles away; Lyme Regis a little further. The setting is the whole point: wide Dorset sky, working-farm smells, sea glinting on the horizon.

The place runs on an informal, community-minded logic. Communal campfires are the evening gathering point, and on weekends the wood-fired oven fires up for pizza nights. There is a coffee shack for mornings and communal benches long enough to seat everyone. The owner has also thought carefully about sustainability: compost loos, a recycling caddy system, home-grown vegetables. The shower block has a certain handmade charm, with Belfast sinks and nice small touches. A converted Bedford lorry on site serves as a cabin option with panoramic views across the hills and coast.

Pitches are grassy and on a slope, which is worth knowing if you have young children or need a flat surface for a van. Dogs are actively welcome. The site is quiet by design: no music, no rowdy parties. Campfires and the sound of nature are the entertainment. The road can be heard faintly in the distance from some pitches, but it rarely intrudes.

Before you book

  • Pitches slope noticeably, which can be tricky with young children or if you need a flat surface for sleeping.
  • Drinking water is signed on site but the signage has confused some guests, so confirm the tap location with the owner on arrival.
An honest West Dorset farm pick: sea views, communal fires, and Friday pizza nights that make the whole field feel like the same camping trip.

Why it made the cut

  • Two miles from the Jurassic Coast with genuine sea views from the pitches
  • Wood-fired pizza nights and a coffee shack give communal life without becoming a holiday-park operation
  • Sustainably run, owner-led, dog-friendly, and firmly anti-noise-and-crowds
