Lower Keats Glamping

Six beautifully equipped safari lodges on a working Devon farm, each with its own hot tub and hosts who cook pizza in the yard.

Lower Keats earns its following through owner care, not marketing. Linda and Gary run six safari lodges on their working farm outside Axminster, and the operation has the texture of somewhere that's been refined over many return visits rather than assembled from a glamping kit. Each lodge has log-burning fire, en-suite shower and loo, a proper bed, and its own private hot tub looking out over Devon meadows.

The farm is the point: animal feeding sessions, a pizza evening where Gary fires up the wood oven beside the communal Hive, and an honesty shop stocked with farm eggs, fresh meat, Linda's home-made ready meals, and locally made ice cream. Order bread and pastries the night before and they arrive in the morning. None of this is templated hospitality, it's a couple who clearly like having guests.

A large enclosed green area runs between the lodges, safe enough for dogs and children to range freely. The six cabins have their own outlook and privacy, but the Hive makes it easy to meet the other guests if you want to. Reviews often mention returning for a fourth or fifth stay, which tells you more than any description could. Coastal walks and good pubs are nearby.

One of those rare glamping sites where the hosts are genuinely the attraction. Six lodges, six hot tubs, one working farm, and a pizza oven that earns its keep.

Why it made the cut

  • Six private-hot-tub safari lodges with real log fires and en-suite facilities on a proper working farm
  • Linda and Gary cook pizza on site and run animal feeding sessions, the kind of hands-on hosting that brings families back year after year
  • Large enclosed green area works equally well for dogs and children; the communal Hive creates optional sociability without forcing it
  • Honesty shop with farm produce, home-made ready meals, and fresh-baked bread to order
