Holyrood Campsite
A working farm above Shaftesbury with wide views over the Blackmore Vale and a ten-minute footpath into town.
Holyrood sits on the edge of Shaftesbury on a proper working farm, and the draw is immediately obvious: the pitches look out across the Blackmore Vale, the kind of view that makes you put your book down. It is tent-only and back-to-basics, which is the whole point.
The site is small and owner-run, with resident farm animals and a kids' play area that earns it with families rather than just claiming to. Fire pits are on site and campfires are welcomed, so evenings are firelit by default. Showers are hot, the toilet block is clean, and there is no check-in window to race against.
A footpath from the site reaches Shaftesbury town in around ten minutes, passing through countryside and, if the season is right, blackberry-lined hedgerows along the way. Pubs, independent shops, and a supermarket are all within easy walking distance, which takes the pressure off provisioning. Gold Hill, Shaftesbury's famous cobbled street, is right there when you want it.
“A down-to-earth farm field with a first-rate view and a footpath to town. Holyrood earns its reputation through setting and owner care, not a facilities list.”
