Caalm Camp

Six hand-crafted Mongolian yurts on a working Dorset farm, each with its own fire pit, private bathroom, and long views across the Blackmore Dales.

Caalm Camp sits in the vale above Stour Row, looking out across the Blackmore Dales towards Duncliffe Woods, Bullbarrow and Hambledon Hill. The six yurts are spaced well apart across the farm paddocks, so the site never tips into the crowded-holiday-park feel that ruins most small glamping operations. Owners Mark and Caryl run the place with the kind of attentiveness that comes from actually caring: they know which local walks suit which ages, and the whole operation is set up so guests genuinely want for nothing.

Each yurt has its own fire pit, barbecue, fresh-water tap and picnic table outside, and a private wet room with underfloor heating inside. There's a log burner in every yurt with wood supplied, a kitchen with fridge and storage assigned per unit, a communal lounge and dining area, and a games room. The main building is thirty seconds away. Wheelchair-accessible ramps throughout make this one of the more thoughtfully designed sites in Dorset for guests with mobility needs.

The farm setting delivers on wildlife: hares, foxes, badgers and deer are regular visitors to the paddocks, and the owners keep friendly goats for younger guests to meet. Local pubs include The Kings Arms about 1.5 miles away and The Crown about 2 miles. Shaftesbury, with its famous Gold Hill and Abbey ruins, is the nearest town. The site sits within day-trip distance of Stourhead, the Jurassic Coast (about 30 miles), Corfe Castle and Salisbury Cathedral.
