Black Rock Sands Camping & Touring sits behind the dunes of one of North Wales's finest stretches of sand, with the beach close enough that you can hear it on a quiet morning. The site is all grass, which keeps the feel from sliding into tarmac-and-awning territory, and the mountain backdrop of Snowdonia National Park gives the horizon a drama that few Welsh coastal sites can match.

The operation is kept to a high standard: showers and toilets are cleaned throughout the day, and the staff are consistently noted for helpfulness. There is food available on site, a playground for younger children, and laundry facilities for longer stays. Porthmadog is a few minutes away for anything else. The site takes tents, caravans, and motorhomes across its 12 acres, so the field rarely feels intimate, but the beach access and the mountain-meets-coast setting carry it.

Dogs are not accepted on site. Water sports are available off the beach. The nearby coast and the pull of Snowdonia make this a practical base as much as a destination in itself.
