Leobay Campsite

A compact, owner-run harbour-view stopover on the Isle of Sheppey with an on-site workshop and a genuinely warm welcome from Steve and Kate.

LeoBay sits just back from Queenborough Harbour on the Isle of Sheppey, with estuary views stretching across to the Thames and masses of birdlife wheeling overhead. It's tiny, seven or eight hardstanding pitches, and the whole thing is run with evident pride: neat pitches, a well-tended garden thick with roses, and an indoor communal area with a log-burning stove for evenings when the estuary wind picks up.

The host, Steve, doubles as a motorhome and campervan technician, with a fully equipped workshop on site. Guests have come specifically for a repair or upgrade and ended up staying for days, it's that kind of place. The facilities are unpretentious: showers and toilets in a converted static, spotlessly maintained; laundry on hand; Wi-Fi that works. It's a useful stopover and a genuinely characterful one.

Before you book

  • Access is via an unmade track through the village, factor that in if you're running a particularly large outfit.
A small, immaculately kept estuary stopover where the owner is the whole reason to book, warm, capable, and quietly exceptional at the practical business of looking after guests and their vehicles.
