Nantcellan Barns
A hilltop field above Clarach Bay with valley views to the sea, a short walk from the Ceredigion Coast Path and twenty minutes from the beach.
Nantcellan Barns sits on a hillside overlooking the Clarach Bay valley, with views down to the sea on the Ceredigion coast. The site runs tents, bell tents and timber cabins across open grass with cattle grazing in neighbouring fields and a working landscape on all sides. Aberystwyth is a 30-minute walk south along the coastal path; Clarach Bay beach is roughly 20 minutes on foot.
This is a genuinely basic site and it earns its place on the catalogue through setting, not facilities. There are no hookups, no bins (take your rubbish out with you), and the showers are open-topped corrugated iron affairs that reviewers either find charming or maddening depending on their tolerance for the elemental. What there is: clean toilets, hot showers, a shared kitchen area, and a stretch of hillside that puts you properly inside the Welsh coastal landscape rather than on the edge of it.
The nature-based learning ethos runs through the operation: the owners are engaged, the pace is unhurried, and the wildlife (birds of prey overhead, horses in the adjacent field) is part of the offer. Bring your own firepit if you want one. No dogs.
