Gelli Glamping
Two safari tents on a Brecon Beacons hillside, west-facing over the Tywi Valley, with wood-fired hot tubs and sunsets that earn their reputation.
Gelli Glamping occupies a hillside perch inside the Brecon Beacons National Park, two miles from Llandeilo, with far-reaching views across the Tywi Valley that face west and catch the light until the end of the day. There are two safari tents on site and nothing else: no shared lawn, no communal fire pit, no other guests crowding the view. It is a deliberately small operation and the intimacy is the point.
Each tent is well-equipped: fully fitted kitchen, wood-burning stove, fleece blankets, hot water bottles and a private wood-fired hot tub. The hot tubs are the log-burning kind, which means planning ahead. Allow four to five hours for the water to reach temperature if you want an evening soak, which means firing it up mid-afternoon. That rhythm suits the place: arrive, light the fire, walk into the Beacons, return to a hot tub and a valley view. Hosts Rhodri and Carys are responsive and add the kind of small touches (extra blankets, kids' games) that make a stay feel looked-after rather than serviced.
Llandeilo is a proper Welsh market town, close enough for provisions and a good meal, far enough that you don't hear it. The wider area offers cycling, walking, and a cluster of Welsh castles within driving distance. In good weather this is a genuinely arresting place to be still for a few days.
Before you book
- The wood-fired hot tubs take four to five hours to heat: plan to light them early afternoon for an evening soak.
- Only two tents on site; solo travellers or groups larger than a family will find the scale limiting.
“A two-tent glamping site that earns its keep on setting alone: elevated, west-facing, in the national park, with views across the Tywi Valley that are exactly as good as the reviews suggest.”
