Maes Tywyn Campsite
A family-run Anglesey tent field where Snowdonia fills the skyline, the owners text you directions before you arrive, and fire pits come free.
Maes Tywyn sits on the Isle of Anglesey near Newborough, a ten-minute walk from a village pub, chip shop and café. The setting punches well above its 25-pitch size: on a clear evening the whole ridge of Snowdonia is visible from the field, and after dark the skies are genuinely dark enough for stargazing.
The site is two fields. The field near the toilet block is busiest; the second field backs onto open farmland and gives more breathing room. Fire pits are available at no extra charge and guests can take them over to their pitch. There is a utility room with a kettle, board games and books, plus a communal freezer and phone chargers. Facilities are well-maintained by the owners, who greet arrivals by text with directions before you even leave home.
Ynys Llanddwyn, the tidal island famous for its lighthouse and romantic associations, is an hour's walk across Newborough Forest and beach. A Michelin-starred restaurant is five minutes away for an occasion dinner. Caernarfon Castle and the rest of Anglesey are easily reached by car, and bus connections to Bangor are within a short walk. Dogs are welcome on a lead throughout.
Before you book
- The adjacent larger campsite can occasionally carry noise if that site's guests are lively, pitching further into the back field helps.
“A genuinely warm family-run site where the view of Snowdonia, free fire pits, and thoughtful owners earn its reputation. An excellent base for exploring Anglesey without the holiday-park feel.”
