Devon Yurt

A small, owner-run glamping farm on the Devon-Cornwall border, sandwiched between Dartmoor to the north and the Tamar Valley AONB to the south, with wood-fired hot tubs and a sauna that earn their keep.

Borough Farm sits in a crease of the Devon-Cornwall border that most people drive straight past on their way to bigger landmarks. Dartmoor National Park lies to the north, the Tamar Valley Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty to the south, and on clear nights the farm sits in what the local area is known for: genuinely dark skies. Julia runs the 18-acre eco-friendly farm around rare breed livestock, and that farm presence is constant rather than decorative.

Five units share the site: two yurts (Great Links being the one reviewers return to) and three converted 18th-century barns, each with its own character. Private gardens and paddocks give each booking real seclusion. The wood-fired hot tub is the kind that takes an hour and a knack with the fire to heat properly, which is part of the appeal. The sauna cabin is a separate draw. Breakfast with local produce is available and, from what guests describe, worth booking.

The experience leans into earned comfort rather than resort convenience. Walks to shared facilities feature in honest reviews alongside notes about the wild swimming near Widgery Cross. Cornwall is a short drive away. Tavistock is the nearest town of any size. This is a place for people who want to be properly away from things without being entirely without them.

Before you book

  • The wood-fired hot tub requires time and effort to heat, Julia teaches guests on arrival, but plan for patience rather than instant gratification.
One of those rare glamping farms where the host and the setting do more work than the kit. Julia's presence and the Dartmoor-to-Tamar corridor location make this more than the sum of its yurts and barns.

Why it made the cut

  • Owner-present operation on a working farm with rare breed livestock gives the stay a grounding other glamping sites fake
  • Position between Dartmoor National Park and the Tamar Valley AONB means the landscape does real work
  • Wood-fired hot tub, sauna cabin, and fire pits all present and functional rather than just listed
  • Dark sky area with genuinely clear nights reported by guests
