Calder Farm Campsite

A family-run farm campsite in the Forest of Bowland AONB with front-row views of Pendle Hill, a ten-minute walk from a proper village pub.

Calder Farm sits in the Ribble Valley within the Forest of Bowland AONB, looking directly across the valley to Pendle Hill. The 12 hardstanding pitches are well spaced, and the views are the kind you wake up to rather than hunt for. Bolton by Bowland village, with its 13th-century cross, cafes and the Coach and Horses pub, is a short walk away.

The operation is properly family-run: the owners come round each evening with firewood, the noticeboard has genuine local recommendations, and there is free on-site wifi for when the mobile signal drops (which it does). A fully furnished ensuite pod handles the glamping end of things, and horses are welcome with stables and grazing available. The campfire-hire option, a drum and a bag of wood, is a nice touch at a sharp price.

For day tripping, Pendle Hill and the Pendle Witch trails are the obvious draws, but Gisburn Forest, the Settle to Carlisle Railway, Skipton Castle and the border of the Yorkshire Dales National Park all sit within reach. The Skirden Beck footpath runs nearby, and the Pennine Bridleway is around 30 minutes on horseback.

Before you book

  • Mobile signal in the area can be patchy; the site offers free wifi to compensate.
A quiet, no-fuss base in a genuinely beautiful AONB valley, with the kind of owner presence that makes a place feel looked after rather than managed.
