Hollow Gill Huts

Three immaculately kept shepherd's huts on a working Yorkshire Dales dairy farm, run with the kind of host care that makes guests rebook before they've even left.

Far Cappleside Farm sits on the hillside above Rathmell, just outside Settle, with Yorkshire Dales countryside rolling out on every side. Emma and Pete run three individually named huts here, each positioned for privacy, each with its own view of the farm and the grazing animals below. Deer show up in the mornings without announcement.

The huts are as well-finished as they are honestly placed. Underfloor heating, a mini kitchen for light cooking, and fire-pit supplies laid out on arrival. The hosts have thought about every arrival detail: treats waiting inside, firewood organised, nothing left to chance. This is glamping that earns the word without needing to shout about it.

Families have a properly enclosed play area and, in summer, children stay free. March and April bring lambing season, Emma and Pete take guests (and particularly small ones) to meet the newborns on the farm, which is the kind of experience that costs nothing and stays with people for years. One hut is dog-friendly. The Three Peaks, Malham Cove, and the Ribble Way are all within range for day walks.

Before you book

  • Only one of the three huts accepts dogs, worth confirming which unit you're booking if you're travelling with a dog.
A small, owner-run glamping site that gets the fundamentals exactly right: a working farm setting in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales, hosts who genuinely care, and huts finished with quiet attention to detail.
