Budle Bay Campsite

Bohemian, family-run Northumberland base 200 metres from Budle Bay's mudflats, two miles from Bamburgh Castle, with the English Coastal Path running straight through the site.

Budle Bay Campsite sits in a tree-lined river valley in the Northumberland Coast AONB, with the Coastal Path threading through the grounds and the famous mudflats just five minutes' walk away. Bamburgh village and its castle are a two-mile stroll south along the shore. Tents, caravans, motorhomes, and huts all coexist here, and the site's character reads as rustic and relaxed rather than polished.

The huts face west, catching long sunsets through their picture windows and private decking. Grass pitches back onto a babbling brook, giving them a quiet, tucked-in feel. An eco-friendly coffee van handles morning bakes and decent coffee; there's a small shop, a kids' play area, and enforced quiet after 10.30pm. The site operates as a dark-sky location, with the Milky Way visible on clear nights and occasional Northern Lights sightings noted.

Katie, Dave, and Steve run the place with genuine warmth, and the scale stays small enough that they know who's on site. The facilities are basic and in need of updating, but the team keep them clean and nothing is too much trouble if you ask. The construction work ongoing at time of writing is adding a second toilet block, which should ease pressure on peak weekends. This is a site that earns its following through location and character, not through facilities.

Before you book

  • Facilities are basic and a toilet block upgrade is under way, so expect some building site presence in 2026.
  • Pitches under the treeline can lose twigs in high winds; worth asking for an open pitch if you're parking a van.
A genuinely independent base on one of the best stretches of the Northumberland coast, where the Coastal Path, Bamburgh Castle, and dark-sky nights do the heavy lifting.
