Bamburgh Under Canvas
Five Lotus Belle tents a mile from Bamburgh Castle, each with a fire pit, a log burner, and a hot tub to watch Northumberland's stars roll in.
Bamburgh Under Canvas is exactly as small as it should be. Five bell tents on a quiet field in the hamlet of Glororum, an easy mile from Bamburgh village, with the Cheviot Hills filling the skyline from your fire pit and the Northumberland coast a short walk beyond. The scale is the point: five pitches, one attentive owner (Campbell), and the kind of thoughtful setup that comes from someone who's actually thought about what you'll need.
Each Lotus Belle is properly furnished: a real bed with fresh linen, a log-burning stove for cool evenings, cooking utensils, blankets, battery packs, and a welcome bottle of prosecco from the hosts. The horseboxe shower and toilet facilities are quirky and spotless. At least one tent comes with a hot tub; sunsets from the water, fire-pit stars afterwards, is a reasonable description of the evening's programme. Dogs come too: the field is fully enclosed with a gate, which means no tethering.
Bamburgh village is a 15-minute walk away, with the castle, award-winning butchers, and the Potted Lobster restaurant. Seahouses is reachable for fish and chips and boat trips to the Farne Islands. The coast is accessible enough for paddleboarding along it. This is adults-only by design, and the atmosphere reflects that: unhurried, quiet, with an owner who'll text you ahead of high winds to reassure you the tents are built for it.
Before you book
- No mains electricity at the pitch; a battery pack is provided for charging devices, but bring your own if you need more capacity.
“A genuinely considered adult-only glamping operation in one of England's most rewarding coastal counties. The setting, the host's attention to detail, and the proximity to Bamburgh make this one of the better reasons to visit Northumberland.”
