Bothag Bhuirgh Camping and Pods

A working croft on the west side of Lewis where Alice and Eddie have thought of everything, right down to the best shower on the Hebridean Way.

Bothag Bhuirgh sits on a croft in Borve village, halfway between Barvas and Ness on the Isle of Lewis. The croft stretches all the way to the shore: ten minutes on foot and you reach a private beach with small rock pools, clear Atlantic water, and very few other people. That access to your own corner of Hebridean coast is what sets this place apart.

The communal barn is a genuine highlight. Cyclists riding the Hebridean Way name it the best-equipped stop on the route: washing machine, tumble dryer, pots and pans, books, games, a microwave, and proper seating to actually dry out in. Showers are warm and well-maintained. Alice and Eddie run the place with care that shows in the details, and guests feel it from the first arrival.

Eight pitches take tents, caravans, and motorhomes; two self-contained pods offer a double bed, bathroom, and kitchen for those wanting shelter without sourcing their own. The Borve Country House Hotel is a short walk for an evening meal. Borve pottery, a local shop, and the Hebridean Heatwave takeaway are all nearby. Adults only (no minimum age stated, but the croft suits families well). Dogs are welcome on a lead.

Priced from around £12 per night, this is exceptional value for the Outer Hebrides. The remoteness is the point: the A857 runs past the village, but beyond that you are on island time, with the Atlantic framing the western horizon.
