Clachtoll Beach Campsite
A family-run beachfront campsite on the Stoer peninsula where the pitch is Clachtoll's golden sand and the view stretches to Lewis, Harris, and Skye.
Clachtoll Beach Campsite sits directly in front of one of the North Highlands' finest beaches, on the Stoer peninsula in Sutherland. The 2.5-acre grass site is flat and well kept, with pitches oriented towards either the sea or the surrounding hills. From the right spot you get an uninterrupted view across the Atlantic to the islands: Lewis, Harris, and Skye in a single westward glance.
Owners Tom and Andy run the place with warmth and real attention. The communal area with covered cooking facilities and a fire pit is the social heart of the site, and on a clear evening it fills up with NC500 tourers comparing notes over fresh lobster and homemade cake from the on-site shop. Wetsuits and paddleboards are available for a refundable £10 deposit, which means the snorkel trail and the wildlife are genuinely accessible. Porpoise and dolphin are regular; Minke whale and otter less so but not rare. The sauna rounds things off.
Facilities are solid without being flashy: clean showers and toilets, washing-up areas, a kitchen block with cookers, and electric hookup on serviced pitches. Flossie's shop is a short walk for anything you've forgotten. Dogs are welcome. The site sits on the Scottish Wildlife Trust snorkel trail and the NC500, so it draws a mix of road-trippers and families who've come specifically for the beach. Despite the volume of visitors, pitch spacing is generous and the vibe stays genuinely relaxed.
