Pentre Du Camping Club

A tent-only farm field above Colwyn Bay where stone fire circles, a present owner, and dead-quiet nights earn the place its reputation.

Pentre Du sits on a working farm above Llysfaen, a short hop from the A55 but far enough up the hill that you forget the road exists. Pitches are spacious grass with pre-laid stone fire circles, logs available from the site, and the kind of green-field backdrop that makes you wonder why you don't do this more often. Walk ten minutes up the hill and you get open views across to Llandudno, the bay, and Snowdonia on a clear day.

Owner Steve runs the site with the unhurried helpfulness of someone who actually enjoys having people there. The facilities are basic but well-kept: hot showers, clean toilets, a washing-up station, drinking water, and recycling. Nothing fancy, nothing broken. Footpaths lead directly from the site; the coast is a short drive for beaches and watersports, and there are historic castles within range if you want a day out.

The campsite draws a quiet crowd: stargazers, dog walkers, families happy without entertainment infrastructure. Noise is expected to die down at 10pm, and in practice it does. At £14 a night for a tent pitch this size, it is one of the more honest propositions in North Wales.
