Barefoot Yurts and Safari Tent

Three private glamping units in the Brede valley near Rye, each set apart so you genuinely have no neighbours and uninterrupted valley views.

Barefoot Yurts and Safari Tent is as small as it gets: two traditional yurts and one safari tent, each placed in its own spot in a secluded valley south of Rye. The site sits in the Brede valley in a stretch of East Sussex that earns its quietness. Views open across the valley from every unit, and because there are only three pitches, you're unlikely to see or hear another guest.

Julia runs the place with the ease of someone who genuinely likes having people here. The safari tent takes no electricity on purpose, which turns out to be the point rather than a compromise. Oven, hot water, crockery and BBQ are all provided, so you can arrive with food and wine and not think too hard. Each unit gets its own fire pit.

Rye is ten minutes away by car and repays an afternoon: the town has good food, independent shops, and the kind of cobbled streets that justify the drive from London. The 1066 Country Walk passes nearby for anyone who wants to stretch their legs in the morning before doing nothing the rest of the day.

A three-unit glamping site that earns its privacy through small scale and thoughtful placing. The Brede valley setting does the heavy lifting, and Julia does the rest.

Why it made the cut

  • Each unit is sited apart so guests have the valley views and silence to themselves
  • Deliberately low-tech in the safari tent, with the right kit provided where it matters
  • Named, present host who takes the operation personally
  • Ten minutes from Rye, under two hours from London, hidden enough to feel a long way from either
