Orchard Wild Camping
An orchard field in the Suffolk countryside where every tent pitch comes with its own fire pit and a sky worth staying up for.
Orchard Wild Camping is as plainspoken as its name. A working orchard outside Saxmundham, a handful of well-spaced grass pitches, a fire pit at each one, a solar shower shack, composting loos, and a host who clearly wants you to enjoy yourself. That's the offering, and for the right camper it's exactly enough.
The site sits five minutes from the edge of the Suffolk Coast and Heaths AONB, with RSPB Minsmere a 20-minute drive and Sutton Hoo around 25. The orchard itself is the wildlife corridor: glow worms in season, bats at dusk, muntjac and badger doing their rounds after dark. Low light pollution means the sky earns attention on clear nights. The nearest pub is a walkable six minutes.
Pitches are large and screened from one another, which guests consistently notice. The A12 runs close and is audible during the day, but by the time the fire dies down, it's quiet. Drinking water is available to buy on site via an honesty box; logs too. This is back-to-basics camping done honestly, not apologetically.
Before you book
- The A12 is nearby and audible during daylight hours, though it quietens considerably after dark.
