Netherfield Place Farm
A genuinely off-grid farm in High Weald AONB, three miles from Battle, for people who mean it when they say they want to disconnect.
Netherfield Place Farm sits inside the High Weald Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, on rewilded farmland with woodland, streams and ponds around the edges of the camping fields. The nearest town is Battle, three miles away, where the Norman abbey marks the site of the 1066 battle that changed the country. The coast is a fifteen-minute drive. A village shop and cafe are an easy walk or short drive from the site.
This is a properly off-grid experience: no electric hookups, solar bag showers, compost toilets, and limited mobile reception once you're in the field. The sky at night earns its reputation here, with minimal light pollution and the kind of darkness that makes the stars worth staying up for. The field pitches are spacious, with ancient hedgerow and woodland on the boundary. Firewood is available on site. Rail access is possible via Battle or Robertsbridge stations.
Bell tent glamping is available alongside tent pitches. The farm sits away from main roads and the approach track is unmade, so arrive in daylight and expect a bumpy final stretch. Owner presence varies; if you need something, aim to make contact before you lose signal.
Before you book
- Unmade access track to the site; best arrived at in daylight, particularly after wet weather.
- Mobile reception is limited to none in the field; download maps and any essentials before leaving the main road.
- No host on-site presence guaranteed; contact the owners before arrival to confirm any requirements.
“A back-to-basics farm field in a proper AONB, earning its place for those who want genuine quiet, dark skies, and the feel of land that hasn't been tidied for tourists.”
