Earth Camp

A wooded eco-campsite in the High Weald AONB where wellness sessions, campfires, and a wandering pizza truck share equal billing.

Earth Camp sits in a quiet pocket of East Sussex woodland on the edge of North Chailey, with the Greenwich Meridian Line passing directly through the site. Owners Will and Rachel run the place with clear intention: this is camping with a point of view. Bell tents, spacious tent pitches, and campfires per pitch sit alongside a sauna, morning yoga, sound baths, massage and reiki sessions. The result feels less like a campsite that does wellness and more like a place where both belong together.

The setting does the heavy lifting. Wooded surroundings keep noise and light at bay, the dark night sky is genuinely impressive, and the fairy woodland area has become a firm fixture for younger guests. Four country pubs are within walking distance. Lewes is 10 minutes by car, Brighton 30 minutes, and the coast is a 25-minute drive. The Sussex Ouse Valley Way and Greenwich Meridian Trail pass nearby for anyone who wants to earn the sauna.

Facilities are honest and eco-aligned: warm showers, a coffee van in the mornings, and a pizza truck that visits on selected evenings (order ahead). Composting toilets are on the basic side and require some seasoning. The site runs hot during peak summer weekends, and the social atmosphere reflects that. If peace and quiet is the primary goal, an off-peak visit will serve better than a July school-holiday weekend.

Before you book

  • Composting toilets only: practical but basic, and can get overloaded at peak weekends.
  • Phone signal is limited to one bar in one spot; no electric hookup in bell tents.
  • Peak summer weekends fill to around 150 guests and the site can run noisy past curfew.
Earth Camp has earned its following by being genuinely itself: a woodland eco-campsite in the High Weald that takes both family camping and on-site wellness seriously, without either diluting the other.

Why it made the cut

  • Owner-led with real character: Will and Rachel are present, hands-on, and the wellness programme is genuine rather than decorative.
  • High Weald AONB woodland setting with dark skies, walking trails from the gate, and four pubs in walking distance.
  • Campfire per pitch as standard, sauna on site, pizza truck visits: the small pleasures are well thought through.
  • Works for families, couples, and wellness-seekers without feeling like it's trying to please everyone at once.
