Loves Hill Camping

A genuinely easy-going Somerset field campsite, 20 minutes from Bath, run by hosts who actually care about who turns up.

Loves Hill opens for eight weeks every summer in the village of Timsbury, and that restraint is part of what makes it work. The field is unhurried, the composting toilets are genuinely inoffensive, and the showers are good enough that nobody's talking about them. Host Nick and team run breakfast rolls from a pop-up setup each morning, and the village pub is a short walk down the road.

The site sits in the heart of Somerset, with the Mendips within easy reach and Glastonbury Tor about 28 minutes' drive. Bath is 20 minutes away and Bristol 30, so this works equally well as a quiet base for a week of day-trips or as somewhere to actually stop and decompress. Wookey Hole Caves, Longleat Safari Park, and the East Somerset Railway are all within half an hour for families with children to keep occupied.

Campfires are permitted in raised fire pits and logs are available on site. The eco angle is understated rather than preachy: composting loos and a low-impact ethos without making a spectacle of it. Under-5s are properly welcome, with a play area on site. From the footpaths and bridleways nearby, you can be out into proper Somerset countryside within minutes of leaving the field.

Before you book

  • Open July to August only: the site operates an eight-week season, so availability is tight in peak summer.
  • Dog policy is not confirmed on the site or in recent reviews. Check directly before booking if you're travelling with a dog.
A summer-only Somerset field that earns its reputation through owner care and an honest, eco-minded operation. Couples and families who want calm proximity to Bath and Bristol without the trappings of a holiday park will find exactly what they're looking for here.

Why it made the cut

  • Hosts are present, warm, and responsive. Breakfast rolls in the morning are a genuinely nice touch.
  • Budget pricing for a well-run, well-kept site 20 minutes from the centre of Bath.
  • Campfires permitted in raised pits with logs available on site.
  • Village pub and shop in walking distance, so you don't need to drive to feel connected to the local area.
