Boyd Valley Lake
A lakeside valley site between Bath and Bristol where the owner's 25 years of care shows in the water, the wildlife, and the welcome.
Boyd Valley Lake sits in a quiet valley in Bitton, roughly equidistant between Bath and Bristol, built on what were once cornfields. Owner Peter has spent more than two decades reshaping the land into a working campsite with a large carp lake at its heart, and the results speak for themselves: butterflies across the meadow field, ducks and geese wandering between pitches at dawn, and sunsets that drop straight into the water.
The camping is proper tent-and-grass stuff, with pitches spread around the lake. Bell tents are also available for those who'd rather arrive than assemble. Fire pits can be hired on site with wood to buy, and the facilities block is clean and regularly attended. The vibe is back-to-basics without being rough: you'll have showers, a washing-up area, and a well-organised recycling setup. Quiet hours from 10pm keep the evenings settled.
The location works well as a base. Bus route 37 connects Bitton Village with both Bath and Bristol city centre directly, and the Bath and Bristol Railway Path is a short reach for a morning run or a cycle. A farm shop and cafe about ten minutes up the road does animals, local produce, and a decent coffee. A second lake is in progress, which is either an exciting update or a sign that Peter hasn't stopped adding to what he's made here.
