Llandyfan Camping

A small, unhurried valley campsite west of the Brecon Beacons, run by a couple who genuinely like their guests and own a fishing lake.

Llandyfan Camping sits in a quiet valley in Carmarthenshire, a few miles west of the Bannau Brycheiniog National Park boundary. Andy and Jo reopened the site in early 2024 and it shows in the care taken with it: the facilities are clean, the firepits are inventive (made from old washing machine drums), and the hosts are the kind who turn up when you need them.

The on-site fishing lake is the site's centrepiece. It fishes well and the owners are happy to offer tips, which means first-timers come away with a catch as often as not. Free-range chickens, ducks, and geese wander the site, giving it the feel of a working smallholding rather than a managed field. The surrounding valley is good walking country, with footpaths leading off-site directly, and the Square and Compass pub is a 15-minute walk.

The site takes tents, campervans, caravans, and motorhomes, plus three pods and a log cabin for those who want a roof. Electric hook-up is available. It's a small site with around six pitches, which keeps things genuinely quiet. Ammanford is the nearest town for supplies.

Before you book

  • Dogs are welcome but must be kept on a lead, which makes sense given the free-range farm animals.
The kind of place that earns its reputation through the owners rather than the facilities: a fishing lake, farm animals, honest countryside, and two hosts who care about the experience.

Why it made the cut

  • On-site fishing lake that actually fishes well, with owner guidance on hand
  • Genuinely small scale, around six pitches, so it stays quiet and unhurried
  • Andy and Jo are the standout feature, present and properly welcoming
  • Valley location west of the Brecon Beacons with footpath access from the site
