A small, family-run clifftop site above Watermouth near Combe Martin, cleverly terraced into plateaus so every one of its fifty pitches keeps the perfect view out to sea
As you drive up and up through Watermouth to Little Meadow you may begin to feel a little nervous about getting a horizontal night's sleep. The stunning cliff top views suggest a site that may be precarious to pitch on, but never fear: the site has been cleverly landscaped into a series of terraced plateaus that ensures everyone gets a view, and even some shelter from the elements (and their neighbours). This thoughtful planning is apparent throughout this small, family run site, with free wi-fi, spotless toilets and its 50 individually marked pitches, most with electric hook-up, spread across tents, touring caravans and motorhomes. There's a little shop, laundry and a playground on site too, and dogs are welcome on a lead.
Little Meadow is well located with plenty of attractions locally and Exmoor nearby. A private footpath from the site leads to Watermouth Castle, a Victorian construction with gardens and a small theme park. If that sounds a little hectic head to Watermouth harbour where you can join the South West Coast Path. Slightly further afield is Lundy Island, reached via ferry from Ilfracombe, or stay on the mainland for surfing at Woolacombe. With a guaranteed view every visitor to Little Meadow will be taking home memories of waking to the Hangman Hills, Combe Martin Bay and Wales in the hazy distance. Do make sure you see at least one sunrise, it's magic.
