Lawnsgate Campsite
A working moorland farm perched above the Esk Valley, with panoramic moors views and llama walks thrown in for good measure.
Lawnsgate sits on a sloping one-acre field within the North York Moors National Park, looking out across the Esk Valley in every direction. The valley views are the point here: reviewers come back specifically for them, and on a clear morning above Lealholm you understand why. Dark skies come for free at night.
The farm is a genuine working operation rather than a camping field that happens to be rural. Llama walks are a distinctive draw for families, and a farm vending machine stocks meat for the barbecue. Glamping options include landpods and a yurt with BBQ, fire pit and hot tub; the Woodfired Swedish Bath overlooks the River Esk rapids. Touring pitches have 16-amp EHU and a chemical disposal point.
Lealholm village is within walking distance, with a dog-friendly pub on the banks of the Esk. Goathland, Egton, Danby and Castleton are all a few minutes' drive away; Whitby and the Yorkshire Coast are reachable by a short car journey. The Coast to Coast and Esk Valley trails pass close to the site for anyone arriving on foot or looking to head out from the pitch.
Before you book
- The site is exposed on its moorland slope and can be very windy; lower pitches offer some shelter.
- The field is uneven in places and the ground can be soft after rain, so caravan and motorhome visitors should check ground conditions before arrival.
“A proper North York Moors farm site with outstanding valley views, a Woodfired Swedish Bath, and llama walks. Suits dogs and families as naturally as it does couples looking for a quieter corner of the moors.”
