Cherish Glamping

A working smallholding in Wensleydale where kingsize four-poster yurts, private hot tubs, and included breakfast make a compelling case for doing nothing for a few days.

Cherish Glamping sits on a 27-acre smallholding in the upper reaches of Wensleydale, between Askrigg and Hawes. Jo and Steve run it themselves, and the care shows in every detail: dog treats left beside the Nespresso machine, breakfast brought to your yurt piping hot, home-cooked evening meals available at a few hours' notice. The Yorkshire Dales surround you on all sides, and two long-distance trails, Herriot Way and Lady Anne's Way, leave directly from the site.

The yurts are substantial: kingsize four-poster beds, Chesterfield sofas, log burners, and their own private wet rooms with rainfall showers. Hot tubs are heated and included in the nightly rate, and a shared barn with games and seating gives groups somewhere to gather in the evenings. Barn owls hunt over the fields at dusk. On clear nights, the valley sky is dark enough for serious stargazing. Kids can feed the pigs and do a proper egg hunt around the farm.

The setting doubles as a walking base. A four-hour route from the door takes in Hardraw Force and drops into Hawes for lunch before looping back. For anyone after the opposite of a screen-and-sofa weekend, this is the right kind of inconvenience: walking boots needed, signal patchy, agenda entirely your own.

Before you book

  • No camping stove in the yurts; cooking is on the fire pit, or via Jo's menu.
  • Phone signal is patchy across the valley.
One of the Dales' best-run glamping operations: the hospitality is genuine, the setting earns its keep, and the included breakfast alone is worth the journey.

Why it made the cut

  • Owner-run with real attention to detail, dog treats, Nespresso pods, farm-fresh eggs, meals delivered to your door
  • Herriot Way and Lady Anne's Way both leave from the site, making it a proper walking base
  • Private hot tub and log burner included in the rate, not charged as extras
  • Barn owls, stargazing, pig feeding, the farm is part of the experience, not backdrop
