Lakeview Campsite

The Glade sits right on the edge of Gunwade Lake in Ferry Meadows, one of the larger country parks in the East of England, less than three miles from Peterborough city centre. That proximity to a city is the surprise here: once you're in, the lake views and open parkland make it feel genuinely removed. Sunsets over the water are the draw, and the site has twelve tent pitches arranged to make the most of them.

Facilities are shared with the adjacent Nene Outdoors Watersports and Activity Centre, which keeps the campsite itself clean and simple. Showers and toilets are a short walk away, and firebowl hire is available if you want a fire without bringing your own kit. The Lakeside Kitchen and Bar is close enough to solve dinner, and the Ferry Meadows Café adds another option. The Visitor Centre and farm shop are nearby too. The site is run by Nene Park Trust, which sets the quiet, conservation-minded tone: low noise, leave no trace, respect the wildlife. It's enforced gently but it shapes who turns up.

Walking is the other reason to base here. The Nene Way passes through the park, and Thorpe Meadows, Orton Meadows, and Woodston Reach are all accessible on foot. Longthorpe Tower and Overton Lake are within the wider park network. For families wanting active days without driving, the watersports centre on the doorstep is genuinely useful. Dogs are welcome throughout.
