Gibraltar Farm

A family-friendly farm site perched above the spectacular expanse of Morecambe Bay, with special sunsets, a wooded path to the water and plenty of room for the kids to run wild

As you round the corner and first spy the tents and caravans of Gibraltar Farm your eye will instantly be drawn to the spectacular expanse of Morecambe Bay spread out behind it. The bay is beautiful but treacherous so the site makes the perfect location to enjoy it from a safe distance. You'll be in for some special sunsets and hopefully not too much of the wind that has dramatically shaped the trees that line its border. Once you get over the view you'll notice the monkeys. Not real monkeys of course but from a distance the kids that swarm over the large central outcrop can look like a pack of simians and certainly sound like them. If you have your own to add to the chaos they'll be in heaven, if not you'll want to head to one of the quieter corners of the site.

The wardens will point you to the wooded path that leads to the water in a few minutes, take a bottle of wine and be wowed as the sun goes down over the Irish sea. Gibraltar Farm has welcomed bikers and pagans (see if you can find the stone circle) in its time so whatever your sect you'll be set. Off site the Wolfhouse Gallery sits just above the farm and boasts a great cafe, and there's a cafe at the end of the site itself for when you don't want to stray far. It's a 10 minute walk to The Silverdale Hotel for hearty food and ales or drive to the Albion in Arnside for fancier fare.

The area is renowned for its flora and fauna with the best spots for twitchers at the RSPB reserve at Leighton Moss or Jenny Brown's Point. Morecambe itself is a short drive away but once you've seen Eric's statue it's worth heading to the beautiful Lancaster, a mini-Edinburgh on the edge of the Lake District.
