Fieldhead
Back-to-basics Edale base for walkers, cars left at the gate.
Fieldhead sits in the middle of Edale village, right under Kinder Scout and at the foot of the Pennine Way, which is exactly where a walker wants to wake up. It is tent-only and cars stay off the camping fields, so what you get is three small grassy paddocks close to reception, a camp shop and the toilet and shower blocks, with nothing rumbling past your guy lines.
The layout does quiet cleverly: the fields are spacious but tucked away from each other, and pitching down by the river gives you real shelter from both weather and noise. There is a handy guest fridge and freezer, the facilities are kept clean, and two good village pubs are a short stroll away for when you have earned a pint. Campers keep coming back to the welcome as much as the setting; the staff are the sort who go out of their way to sort a problem.
It is a simple, honest site rather than a frills one, and that is the whole point. Come for the trails on your doorstep, the valley views and an early, easy start onto the hills.

“The obvious Edale basecamp: quiet, walkable and car-free, run by people who clearly care.”
