Darnells Farm

A family-run farm glamping operation in the Wye Valley with pods, a safari tent and a barn conversion, all run by hosts who remember your name.

Darnells Farm sits on the Herefordshire-Gloucestershire border near Linton, about a 15-minute drive from Ross-on-Wye. Hosts Danni and Graham run a working farm and have built their glamping offer around it: pods for couples and small families, a safari tent that sleeps up to six adults comfortably, and The Wayne House barn conversion. Guests wake to cows and sheep grazing the adjacent field.

The units are well-equipped and honestly comfortable. The safari tent has its own toilets and shower, a fire pit, BBQ, pizza oven, fairy lights and good linen. Pods share the fire pit and have their own kitchens. On the last day, a complimentary breakfast arrives at the door. There is a play area for young children and the farm animals keep them entertained between.

Location does real work here. Symonds Yat is ten minutes away; the River Wye is on the doorstep for canoeing and boat trips; there is a birds of prey centre and steam train rides nearby. Three village pubs (the Roadmaker Inn, The Alma, and The Penny Farthing) are all within 1.4 miles and walkable in the evening. Ross-on-Wye, the Forest of Dean, and the Malvern Hills are all within an easy half-hour.

Before you book

  • The path from the pods to the car parking area involves a steep hill, which may be difficult for anyone with limited mobility.
Darnells earns its reputation through genuinely warm hosting and units that are properly equipped rather than just photographed well. It is the right Wye Valley base for families and groups who want glamping that feels cared-for rather than corporate.

Why it made the cut

  • Farm setting with visible livestock gives the place an honest rural character
