Middle Woodbatch Farm
A working Shropshire Hills farm where every pitch comes with a fire bowl and the Milky Way is the evening's entertainment.
Middle Woodbatch Farm sits inside the Shropshire Hills AONB about ten minutes from Bishops Castle, high enough that the views roll out across South Shropshire in every direction and the light at night simply disappears. That's the point: this is one of the darkest corners of England's Midlands, and the farm makes no secret of it. Bring a reclining chair.
Every pitch includes a fire bowl, with dry firewood available on-site. The camping field slopes gently, expected territory in the Shropshire hills, but the trade-off is altitude and outlook rather than a flat, featureless lawn. Facilities are honest and well kept: a clean shower and toilet block, plus a small shared kitchen with fridge, kettle, microwave, and toaster. The site takes tents and motorhomes alongside its glamping accommodation, and dogs are welcome throughout.
From the farm, a quiet country lane walk of around 30 minutes drops you into Bishops Castle, a small market town with independent shops, good pubs, and a Co-op for supplies. The Shropshire Way and the Middle Woodbatch Circular trail both access directly from the site. Shrewsbury is roughly 22 miles via the A488 if you need a larger town.
Before you book
- Access is via a single-track road, not problematic for most vehicles, but worth knowing before you arrive in something wide.
- The camping field is on a noticeable slope; some pitches will suit tent pegging better than others.
