Craigmaddie Glamping
Six owner-run pods on the edge of East Dunbartonshire countryside, minutes from the West Highland Way's southern trailhead and an easy drive from Glasgow.
Craigmaddie sits two miles north of Milngavie, the official start of the West Highland Way, which makes it the obvious overnight for anyone walking north and the obvious arrival point for anyone walking south. Brian and Anne run the six pods with a level of personal attention that reads less like hospitality and more like genuine warmth: guests report being driven into town and back, shortbread left on arrival, a lost item phoned about and held until collected.
The pods are compact but properly thought through: floor heating, a small kitchen, private bathroom, plush bedding, and a terrace outside for the countryside air. The surrounding landscape offers a walk round Craigmaddie Reservoir, and Glasgow city centre is under seven miles away when you want a restaurant or a train. This is a site that works as a base for active weekends as much as a straightforward escape.
Six units keeps the site small and quiet. Families with young children are actively welcomed, couples tend to find it suitably settled, and solo travellers get the owner presence that makes arriving alone easy. No dogs.

“Craigmaddie earns its reputation through the people running it. Small, clean, genuinely owner-led, and well-placed for the West Highland Way or a Glasgow weekend that needs a quieter base.”
Why it made the cut
- Brian and Anne's hands-on hospitality is a consistent thread across every review, well beyond the norm for pod sites.
- Proximity to the West Highland Way trailhead at Milngavie gives it a clear use-case anchor.
- Six pods keeps the atmosphere quiet and personal rather than pod-park scaled.
- Pods are genuinely well-fitted: floor heating, private bathroom, outside terrace, kitchen.
