Little Menherion

Three handmade woodland cabins on a Cornish hill, each one distinctly itself, run by owners who clearly love what they've built.

Little Menherion sits on a 12-acre smallholding on the northern flank of Carnmenellis, one of five Marilyn peaks in Cornwall. The hamlet takes its name from the Cornish word for standing stone, and there's an actual menhir on the property. Three cabins: Log Jam in the trees with its hidden bedroom and veranda views over the clearing; Round n Round, ideal for stargazing when the skies clear; and Tylda Krow, each one owner-built with enough idiosyncratic detail to reward a long look around.

This is a proper small-scale operation. Bernice, Huw, and Pan run it themselves, and the attentiveness shows: homemade bread on arrival, an on-site organic shop so you needn't leave, communal fire pits for the evenings. The sound of a stream runs through the site. There's no light pollution out here, which means the Milky Way on a clear night. The Great Flat Lode cycle route is nearby, and the Cornish coastline, historic mining trails, and wild swimming spots are within reach for day trips.

The Golden Lion pub is a short walk down from the site. A lake and the mountain are both accessible on foot. With only three cabins, the whole place stays genuinely quiet.
