Knotlow Farm

A proper White Peak farm in the heart of the national park, with real cattle, a trail running through the fields, and pods with hot tubs for when you want the views but not the tent.

Knotlow Farm sits just outside the hamlet of Flagg, roughly halfway between Bakewell and Buxton, on the limestone plateau that gives the White Peak its name. The farm is working in the proper sense: Aberdeen Angus cattle and Dorper sheep graze the neighbouring fields, and that's what you look out at from the tent or the pod deck. The Limestone Way crosses the site, which means you can walk to the village of Monyash in about 20 minutes without touching a road.

The pitch split covers most preferences: grass for tents, hardstanding for tourers, and a set of glamping pods each with a private hot tub for couples or anyone who wants the Peak District air without the Peak District ground sheet. There are separate family and adults-only fields, which keeps the site workable for both without either feeling like the afterthought. On-site pizza and breakfast rolls are available, and there's a small shop at reception. A nearby farm shop with an honesty-box payment system (cards accepted, open until 7.30pm) is a ten-minute walk away.

Facilities are clean and modern: warm showers (20p for two minutes, keep change handy), an indoor pot-wash station, a freezer for cold packs, and plug sockets for charging. The walking and cycling available directly from the site is the main draw: the Limestone Way and Midshires Way both pass through or near the land, giving easy access to the White Peak without needing a car. Signal is reportedly good on Three, patchier on other networks.

Before you book

  • Showers are coin-operated at 20p for two minutes; bring plenty of change.
  • Farm noise (livestock) and occasional aircraft overhead are part of the texture here.
  • Fire baskets are available to hire for £5 per night plus fuel; no open fires otherwise.
A genuinely working farm in a national park that happens to have excellent facilities and a trail through the gate. The kind of honest, well-run site that earns its reputation through consistency and setting rather than spectacle.
