Holme Valley Camping & Caravan Park

A 16-acre family-run valley site on the Peak District edge where the River Holme runs past your pitch and Last of the Summer Wine was filmed on the grounds.

Holme Valley Camping and Caravan Park occupies 16 acres of woodland and meadow in the folds of the Holme Valley, just outside Holmfirth in West Yorkshire. The Peak District begins immediately beyond the valley rim, and the River Holme threads through the lower reaches of the site, drawing ducks and the kind of wildlife that keeps children occupied for hours. The BBC filmed Last of the Summer Wine here, and the Tour de France passed the entrance in 2014, the place has a quiet knack for being in the right spot.

The facilities are immaculate by any standard: clean, warm showers, well-stocked shop, and a food hut serving everything from chocolate croissants to pizza. A coffee van pulls up twice a week. For glamping guests, the Fern Dome comes with a panoramic window; the Ivy Pod earns consistent praise for cosiness even in November. You can hire a private bathroom, which makes a proper difference for families with young children.

Holmfirth is a good walk from the site, either along the road or the more ambitious route that follows the River Holme through woodland and past two cricket clubs. Hagg Wood is accessible on foot, and the Holme Valley walking routes fan out from the valley bottom. Pitch sizes are generous, and the overall tempo is calm: music must be kept low and off by 9pm, which keeps the evenings genuinely quiet.
