Gatcombe Park Farm Glamping

A working alpaca farm two miles from Totnes where you sleep in a repurposed showman's wagon, a cabin, or under canvas with Devon's best at your door.

Gatcombe Park Farm sits in the South Devon countryside just outside Littlehempston, a short drive from Totnes, with Dartmoor to the north and the South Hams coastline to the south. The farm runs a small glamping operation built around a repurposed circus wagon, a retro cabin, and proper tent pitches -- and the resident alpaca herd that most guests walk straight over to first.

Phil and his wife run the place with a warmth that comes through immediately on arrival. The facilities are clean and well-kept, the vibe is unhurried, and the scale is small enough that you never feel crowded. Two pubs -- the Tally Ho and the Pig & Whistle -- are within walking distance down the lane (bring a torch after dark). Totnes itself, with its independent shops, cafes, and river walks along the Dart, is about five minutes by car.

For day trips, Dartmoor is a short drive and the beaches at Paignton, Torquay, and Broadsands are within twenty minutes. The River Dart is accessible for wild swimming and kayaking if you venture a little further. Walking trails from the farm include the Torbay Totnes Trail and the John Musgrave Heritage Trail -- both starting within 2km.

Before you book

  • The lane to the pubs is unlit -- a torch is needed after dark.
A small, owner-run farm with genuine character: alpacas, a showman's wagon, clean facilities, and two pubs in walking distance. South Devon at its most quietly rewarding.

Why it made the cut

  • Real working farm with alpaca interaction -- not a theme, just how the place is
  • Showman's wagon and cabin are well-presented with personal touches; tent pitches available too
  • Two walkable pubs and proximity to both Dartmoor and the South Hams coast
