Five Acres Farm Campsite

An open Peak District field with Monsal Trail on the doorstep, clean facilities, and an owner who turns up in the evening with a wagon of wood.

Five Acres Farm sits above Wardlow in the White Peak, a straightforward grass field that earns its place on the Campr list purely through position. The Monsal Trail is two miles away, Monsal Head Viaduct is within easy reach, and Bakewell is a ten-minute drive. Chatsworth House is another ten minutes beyond that. This is not a site you book for what it has on site; it is one you book because of where it sits.

The set-up is honest and uncomplicated. Pick your own pitch across an open field, park beside your tent, and settle in. The site is deliberately basic: no electric hookup, no shop, no bar. What it does have is well-maintained: porter cabin toilet and shower blocks cleaned through the day, consistently hot showers, drinking water taps. The owner does a rounds at early evening, checks you in, and offers kindling and logs from a little wagon. Fires are part of the deal.

At around £20 a pitch, the value is straightforward for the Peak District. The site can get lively on bank holiday weekends, with a sociable atmosphere that comes from an open layout and no set pitches. The 10pm quiet rule is loosely observed at busy periods, so come expecting a campsite with energy rather than a retreat. Outside peak weekends it is markedly quieter.

Before you book

  • The field slopes in places; flat pitches are easier to find midweek when the site is less full.
  • The 10pm quiet rule is not consistently enforced on busy bank holiday weekends.
A no-frills Peak District base with direct access to the Monsal Trail and the kind of honest owner presence that earns its reputation through consistency rather than polish.
