Elham Treehouse

A single treehouse on a 15th-century Kent Downs farmstead, where Mark bakes bread every morning and the North Downs fill the view.

Elham Treehouse sits in a quiet corner of Upper Park Gate Farm inside the Kent Downs AONB, high enough in the canopy to catch uninterrupted views across the North Downs. It is a single unit, privately yours for the stay, with the farmstead's centuries of history visible in the grounds below.

The treehouse is properly equipped: electric cool box, games, phone chargers, a hob inside, and a fire pit and BBQ in the outside area. What sets it apart is Mark, the host, who bakes fresh bread delivered to you each morning and is on hand throughout the stay without hovering. Reviews are consistent on this: the host makes the difference here.

Elham village is about a 20-minute walk, with a pub serving food and a small village shop. Whitstable, one of Kent's best coastal towns, is a 30-minute drive. Canterbury is close enough for a half-day. The Elham Valley Way runs from the doorstep, so you can walk into countryside without getting in the car.

One practical note from guests: there are no curtains or blinds, so bring an eye mask if early-morning light is an issue. Otherwise this is a genuinely considered escape, less than two hours from London, that earns its reputation through owner care rather than facilities quantity.

Before you book

  • No curtains or blinds in the treehouse, bring an eye mask if you are sensitive to early light.
A thoughtfully built, owner-present treehouse in a proper AONB setting, where the host's attention to detail (fresh bread, fast responses, well-stocked interior) makes a simple concept feel genuinely special.

Why it made the cut

  • Kent Downs AONB location with North Downs views from the treetop
  • Owner Mark is a standout host: hands-on without being intrusive, fresh bread every morning
