Efford Camping

The closest campsite to Bude town centre: a hillside no-frills site where the South West Coast Path starts at the gate and Summerleaze Beach is a five-minute walk.

Efford Camping sits on a hillside above Bude with views back over the town and out towards the sea. The pitches are open and unmarked on sloped grass, which means you pick your own position and angle your tent accordingly. It is not a site that trades on facilities. What it trades on is location: you are closer to Summerleaze Beach and the Bude town centre here than at any other campsite in the area, and the South West Coast Path runs directly from the site.

The facilities are honest and minimal: hot showers, flushing toilets, and outdoor wetsuit-rinse stations. There is no electric hookup, no wifi, no shop. Bring a torch for the shower block after dark. BBQs are welcome, and dogs are accepted with a nightly supplement. The pitches are spacious and the owner is a visible, friendly presence on site.

Bude itself does the heavy lifting here: Crooklets Beach, the tidal Bude Seapool, the Canal, Freewave Surf Academy, and a full range of cafes, pubs, and restaurants are all within easy walking distance. For Coast Path walkers breaking their journey in Bude, or surfers wanting to drop gear and walk to the water, this hillside field earns its place.

Before you book

  • The site is on a genuine hillside: finding a level pitch takes some searching, particularly for larger tents or campervans.
  • Shower block has no lighting: bring a torch for evening use.
A functional, well-located base for anyone prioritising Bude's beaches and the Coast Path over campsite comforts. The location does what the facilities don't.
