Gigha Camp and Motorhome Site

A community-owned Hebridean island campsite where the beach is 50 metres from your pitch and the warden meets the ferry.

Gigha is a three-mile island off the Kintyre coast, reached by a 20-minute CalMac crossing from Tayinloan. The campsite sits right at the Ardminish Bay ferry slip, run by the Isle of Gigha Heritage Trust since 2022, the community owns the island, and it shows in how the site is kept. Wardens wait at the gate when the ferry comes in.

Tent pitches are vehicle-free, each tucked into its own pocket of bracken for privacy. Motorhome and campervan pitches are level hardstanding. The facilities block is modern and spotless, with wall-heated showers that reviewers keep coming back to. Bike hire is directly across the road at the Activity Centre, which makes the island's lanes immediately explorable.

Ardminish Bay's sandy beach is around 50 metres from the pitches, with clear, shallow water that suits paddle-boarding and swimming. Achamore Gardens are within walking distance. The Boathouse pub serves Gigha oysters and local seafood; the Wee Isle Café and Ardminish Stores are both close. There is very little reason to leave the island once you arrive, and that is the point.

Before you book

  • No dogs allowed.
  • Accessed via single-track island roads from the Tayinloan ferry, plan for the ferry timetable when booking arrival and departure days.
One of the most considered small sites in Scotland: community-owned, immaculately run, and positioned where the ferry drops you 50 metres from a white sand beach.

Why it made the cut

  • Isle of Gigha Heritage Trust ownership gives the site genuine community soul rather than commercial polish
  • Vehicle-free tent pitches with natural separation are rare and well-executed
  • Facilities are genuinely modern and fastidiously maintained, not just adequate
  • The island itself is the activity: beaches, bike routes, Achamore Gardens, local seafood
