Camp Wight

Ancient semi-natural woodland in West Wight with intentional dark skies, individual tree-framed clearings, and a host who meets you properly on arrival.

Camp Wight sits in a small family farm's woodland on the quieter western tip of the Isle of Wight, two miles from the Yarmouth ferry. The site was planted partly under the JIGSAW woodland scheme and includes ancient semi-natural woodland, which gives each pitch a genuinely different character: individual clearings among oak and ash rather than rows on grass.

Accommodation spans the range from hammock and tent to geodesic domes, furnished and unfurnished pods, and tree tents. No mains electric hook-ups anywhere on site, which is a conscious choice. Solar-powered showers and compost toilets handle the practicalities. Fire pits are the evening entertainment. On clear nights the Downs are visible to the south; after dark, the absence of light pollution makes the Milky Way properly visible.

Tom, the host, is mentioned across reviews for a warm, present welcome that tilts the experience from campsite to something closer to staying on a friend's land. The Horse and Groom pub is within walking distance; Shalfleet village shop is about a mile away. Compton Bay and Totland Bay are reachable for beach days, and the Tennyson Trail is accessible via nearby bridlepaths. Yarmouth town is two miles down the road for the ferry and anything else.
