Little Eden Riverside Campsite

A simple, owner-run riverside pitch on the Somerset Levels where kingfishers pass close enough to startle you and every pitch has its own fire pit.

Little Eden sits on the banks of the River Brue, nine miles from Glastonbury Tor and deep in the Somerset Levels. South-facing pitches take the sun all day, and the river is right there: paddleboards and kayaks launch from the bank, and the owner Andy has been known to talk guests into a river swim they'll spend the next hour talking about.

The site is genuinely rustic. No frills, no fanfare, just grass, firepits, the sound of the Brue, and a sky that earns itself at dusk. Evenings come with owl calls, the occasional kingfisher low over the water at first light, and the Somerset levels spreading out flat to every horizon. Andy and Ali run it with quiet care and a short list of rules: use your common sense, be kind to the place and to each other.

Practicalities: showers are on site but have been unreliable, worth knowing before you pack your kit. The Duck at Burtle is under two miles for a proper pub meal. The Sustrans 33 cycle path is accessible nearby for those who want to explore the levels on two wheels. Glastonbury town is nine miles if you need supplies or feel drawn to the Tor.

Before you book

  • Showers on site have had reliability issues, water temperature can be inconsistent, so come prepared to manage without.
  • Very small site with limited online presence; book directly via the website to confirm availability and current setup.
A rare find: a genuinely quiet, wildlife-rich riverside pitch in the Somerset Levels with an owner who cares more about your experience than the rules. The river access lifts it above most field-camping.

Why it made the cut

  • Paddleboard and kayak access directly from the bank, rare on a campsite this small
  • Every pitch has its own fire pit, south-facing for evening light
  • Kingfishers, tawny owls and river swimming make the setting the product
  • Owner Andy is present, warm, and runs the place with lightness rather than rules
