Higher Moor Camp Site
A quietly-run valley campsite on the edge of National Trust Cubert Common, with three beaches walkable and no phone signal to worry about.
Higher Moor sits at the bottom of a valley on the fringe of National Trust Cubert Common, half a mile from Crantock village and its 400-year-old pub. The pitches are arranged around the outer edges of a wide, level field, leaving the middle open for children to kick about in, and the views roll across the Common with an unhurried kind of scale.
Three beaches are on foot from the gate. Porth Joke (Polly Joke locally) is the unspoilt one: no facilities, no lifeguard, no beach bar. Crantock Beach adds the amenities if you want them. The South West Coast Path runs close enough to make longer walks straightforward. Owners Sue and John run the place with a calm, hands-on presence that regulars notice and return for, some of them across three generations.
Facilities are clean and well-maintained: showers with hot water, toilets, electric hookup and a freezer for ice blocks. Signal is patchy at best, which many guests list as a selling point. Crantock village has a shop and two pubs; Holywell Bay and West Pentire are five minutes by car; Newquay, Truro, Padstow, and the Eden Project are all within 30 minutes.
